When your pet needs an operation, it’s always a bit worrying. And if it’s something more complicated, the last thing you want is to be told you need to travel miles to a specialist hospital.
That is one of the things we are particularly proud of at Surrey Family Vets. Thanks to Marcos, the co-founder of the practice and our very talented surgical vet, we are able to carry out a surprisingly wide range of advanced operations right here in Guildford.
So whether you are in Guildford, Woking or one of the surrounding villages, your pet can have access to some impressive surgical expertise without having to go far from home.
Meet Marcos
Marcos has been a vet since 2011, having graduated from the University of Murcia in Spain. He’s worked in veterinary hospitals and practices across the UK since 2014, developing a particular passion for surgery.
In fact, Marcos is an RCVS Recognised Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery. Essentially it means he’s undertaken considerable additional training and gained advanced qualifications in veterinary surgery.
It is an important distinction because it means he has the skills and experience to perform many of the more complicated operations that would normally involve a referral to a specialist hospital.
And we are lucky enough to have him here every day!
What Sort of Surgery Can Marcos Do?
Alongside the more familiar operations, such as neutering and lump removals, Marcos regularly performs some much more complicated procedures.
These include:
- BOAS surgery: Helping flat-faced dogs like French Bulldogs and Pugs breathe more easily by correcting problems with their airways.
- TECA surgery: An operation for pets with severe, long-standing ear problems that haven’t responded to other treatments.
- Reconstructive surgery: Repairing more complicated wounds and rebuilding tissue following injuries or the removal of large lumps.
- Gastrointestinal surgery: Everything from removing swallowed toys and socks to treating more serious problems involving the stomach and intestines.
- Keyhole surgery: Using tiny incisions and a camera to perform operations with less discomfort and a quicker recovery.
- Orthopaedic surgery: Including repairing broken bones, femoral head excision and other joint problems.
Of course, every animal is different and Marcos will always talk you through the options and explain what he thinks is best for your pet.

But more importantly, it is the same friendly team looking after your pet before, during and after their operation.
