Keyhole Surgery
Marcos at Surrey Family Vets provides laparoscopic procedures, offering a superior surgical option for our clients and their pets.
A keyhole spay at our practice takes no longer and is often faster, than a traditional spay.
Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive approach, utilizing a camera and long instruments to access the body via small incisions. It delivers great benefits for our animal patients, comparable to the standard of care in human surgery.
Key Advantages:
- Faster recovery time
- Markedly reduced pain post-operstively
- Minimally invasive: smaller incisions and less tissue trauma
- Enhanced safety & visibility: a clear, magnified view of the anatomy reduces intraoperative risks such as haemorrhage and lowers the chance of post-operative complications like infection
Keyhole spay:
This is our most frequently performed laparoscopic procedure. It enables us to spay dogs through significantly smaller incisions, resulting in much less pain as there is minimal tension on the internal ligaments.
We employ a two-port ovariectomy technique. We examine the uterus endoscopically; if it appears normal, it is left in situ. With the ovaries (and the source of hormones) removed, there is no risk of future pyometra.
Additional laparoscopic procedures we offer:
- Cryptorchid castration
- Ovarian remnant removal
- Liver biopsy
- Laparoscopic-assisted gastropexy (can be performed concurrently with a spay/neuter)
- Diagnostic exploration of the abdomen or chest
